Maxine Ramey

Maxine Ramey is in her 18th year as professor of music at The University of Montana, teaching clarinet and chamber music. In 2008, she received the Distinguished Faculty Award from the College of Visual and Performing Arts.  She is clarinetist with the Sapphire Trio (clarinet, violin and piano) which has toured the U.S., Ireland, Japan, Germany and Austria presenting and promoting commissioned works by the Verdehr Trio. In 2006, as U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors, they toured the Persian Gulf (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia).   She has performed at Clarinetfest conferences and numerous clarinet festivals across the U.S.  Maxine Ramey has commissioned or premiered works by Jean Francaix, Jacques Casterede, Ivan Tcherepnin, William Bolcom, Vincent Persichetti, Robert Baksa and David Maslanka.  Her students have gone on to be performers, professors, and all manner of musical entrepreneurs.  She received her Bachelor of Music from Arizona State University and continued on with her MM and DMA degrees at Michigan State University with Elsa-Ludewig Verdehr. Currently, she serves as Interim Director of the School of Music at The University of Montana and Director of the Vienna Program 2010, a six-week summer study abroad experience for UM music students.
