Keith Koons

Keith Koons holds the rank of Professor of Music at the University of Central Florida, where he has been a member of the Music Department faculty since 1990. He has performed at numerous festivals and conferences, including ICA ClarinetFest conferences in Chicago, Ohio, Utah, Belgium, Portugal, and Texas; national and regional conferences of the American Musical Instrument Society, College Music Society, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, National Flute Association, International Double Reed Society, and the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium.

He is a longtime member of Toastmasters International, and recently achieved the designation of Distinguished Toastmaster, the organization’s highest award.

Dr. Koons is a frequent recitalist, orchestral and chamber musician. He has been Principal Clarinet with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne, FL since 1992, and also performs with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.

He holds degrees from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (BME), the Manhattan School of Music (MM) and the University of Southern California (DMA). Previous teachers include Mitchell Lurie, Leon Russianoff, Robert Genovese and Donald Oehler. In 1993, Dr. Koons founded the ICA Research Presentation Committee, and served as its chair for 13 years, as well as Research Coordinator and Library Liaison. He currently serves as President of the ICA.
